How to Choose the Perfect Crystal

With hundreds of crystals out there, each with different properties, it can be really challenging choosing the crystal/s that's right for you.

If you're a newbie to this space, then I can imagine how overwhelming it may be, especially when you're presented with so much choice. I know I was when I first started collecting crystals. The researching, umming and ahhing, scratching your head or even the basket with hundreds of pounds worth of crystals. My advice, choose your crystal first, then research!!! Otherwise you can find yourself floating around a whole encyclopedia of information and still not know which one to choose.

Choosing your crystal doesn't have to be a ball ache and once you've got the knack, the next thing is justifying to your bank balance why you need yet another crystal!!!

There are a few different ways when choosing, depending on what resonates with you.

1. Colour

Now this is a really interesting one, which I will go into more detail in another post. But colour is a very good indication of where you are at mentally, physically or emotionally. Colours can be associated to our chakras so being drawn to a particular colour could indicate an imbalance with our chakra/s or a resonance, it largely depends on what you instinctively feel.

Blue Agate, Labradorite, Lapis Lazuli

For example, let's say you're drawn to the above colour blue. Now blue represents the throat chakra which is everything to do with communication, truth, your voice and throat. Blue promotes a feeling of being intelligent and trustworthy. The colour also brings to mind thoughts and feelings of logic, communication and duty.

Being drawn to blue could indicate an imbalance in your throat chakra, you may be feeling less confident in yourself, your ability to communicate, your intelligence and so forth. Let's take the stress of going back to work, blue based crystals can aid in your own personal feeling of confidence, providing you with the strength to speak your truth, or maybe you've had a brilliant idea & didn't have the confidence to speak it out loud before.

If you're drawn to blues, but the above doesn't resonate and you're thinking 'I have no problems with that whatsoever' then that's fine, it could mean that you and your chakra are in perfect harmony with one another, by wearing blue you're unconsciously in sync with your body & how it feels.

2. Intuition

Now this is the one I typically tend to use, especially throughout the whole of lockdown when the only means I have had to feed my crystal buying habit has been through the screens of technology. Your intuition is exceptionally important, not just for buying crystals, but with pretty much anything.

Psychology studies have shown that our bodies are able to perceive threats before our brain is consciously aware of them!!! So if you have a hunch that just won't leave, then it is something worth paying attention to.

The best way to ascertain which crystal to choose, is to simply look and see which one catches your eye first, especially when they are laid out like the above. Which one does your eye keep being drawn back to? Rose Quartz, Larimar or Moonstone?

Once you've made your decision then research to your heart's content. You'll often find a resonance, a light-bulb moment or even the occasional head nod. And don't worry if what you pick changes, this is just your bodies way of saying it needs different crystals at different moments in time. Look for patterns of three, these are usually a really strong sign.

3. Touch

Touch is a great way of feeling into those energies on a more physical space. It works similarly to intuition, but the difference is you get a feel for a particular stones energies before you buy. Much like clothes shopping, you're trying on the crystals energy for size.

It is definitely my go to if I have multiple crystals and only want to buy one. I simply put one on each palm of my hand, face up, palms open and you want to tap into your hands. By this I mean focus on centre of your palms and just feel. You may notice a weightedness that has nothing to do with the physical weight of the stone, a tingling of the palms or even a sense of calm. The one that calls to you the most, is the one that resonates with you and your needs.
